Customer Questions

Is a box spring required? I bought a 10" memory foam mattress but am worried that the mattress will be too low for the headboard.

Asked by: Chloe
I'm not sure. Check with the store. Memory foam tends to be wobbly. You may need a harder base under it.

Will a regular full mattress be compatible.

Dimensions don’t seem right.
Asked by: MsRose49
The full mattress fits perfectly for us. We also got a full low profile foundation.

do you need a box spring?

Do you have to have a box spring? My son is 5 and it just seems to high with a boxspring.
Asked by: VeraSwede
You're supposed to use a box spring, but our daughter has a double sided pillow top mattress from her previous bed, so we used that. It's a tad low with just that, but she loves it that way. She doesn't want us to get a box spring. I suppose if you use a box spring, you should consider pairing it with a plain, no frills mattress, otherwise it could end up being too high. Daughter is a small 10 year old, by the way.

Is the grey true to the photo?

In the customer photo it looks much darker. Is it a light grey or dark grey?
Asked by: Marisa
It’s more of a dark grey. The first few pictures are really not accurate. Some of the later photos are more the true color.

Can I use a bunky board instead of a box spring?

I know a low profile foundation is an option but can I use a 2 inch bunky board?
Asked by: Jessica
This question is best answered from the standpoint of the construction of the bed frame. It is secured at the corners by brackets with fairly short overlap with the frame sides. As such it does not have a lot of integrity to keep the frame from torquing out of square. The 3 horizontal bars do not provide much help (slats that cross along the whole length would be better). So the box foundation, being of greater height than the bunky board and rigid, increases the stability of the frame tremendously. Too bad the beds (most are same) do not have better brackets to counter this effect. This is why the seller recommends a full box foundation (which is really another wood frame but with slats to prevent torque). You might not notice a problem until you tried to move the bed by pushing on the frame.

Can i use a metal frame with this bed?

Asked by: AlexB
While purchasing these items from Living Spaces, we learned the correct terms for what we normally refer to as a "bed". A "bed" is the headboard, sideboard and sometimes footboard. The "Dean" is a bed. Your mattress and box spring (box springs are also referred to as a "foundation"), would be used with a bed like Dean or with your metal frame. So, if you have a mattress and foundation, you could use them with the Dean bed or you could use them with your metal bed frame. Hope that helps.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Head Board has a bad odor We bought the Dean headboard and it has a pungent odor. We thought it would air out and it had been a month and it still smells. We would like to have it replaced but with COVID-19 we don’t want anyone to come into the house. It’s very pretty but also stinky.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it I was looking to down size from a California King bed to a queen bed but a bit modern, and when I seen this bad boy it was a sign because I wants something simple and modern and this was it. Love it and matches with my dark brownish/black furniture

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bed So far happy with the bed. Seems study and well made. Looks as pictured. Haven’t used much so can’t say how well it will hold up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this bed frame! I have spent the last 2 years looking for a new bed frame and my search kept taking me to L.S. website. I was looking for a low profile bed that could accommodate a box spring and mattress and the dean bed frame is it. I have a tempur-pedic mattress so I needed a frame that would hold that plus the box spring. The Dean frame is well priced and looks great for what it cost. The shipping fee also included white glove delivery and set up. Pretty easy instructions. I also got the Ashton nightstand and it looks great next to the grey bed frame.
